Varvara Andreeva, a student of NovSU Polytechnic College, has created a device that allows you to create a continuous curtain of laser radiation at a distance of 100 meters. This is reported today, August 22, by the Novgorod media with reference to the university's press service.
"Currently, there are no mobile optical systems for countering UAVs," said Varvara Andreeva. — Moreover, there is no system that could protect every armored vehicle from drones and barraging ammunition, temporarily blinding their cameras. To counter UAVs, expensive anti-aircraft missiles and electronic systems are produced, which are not always effective. The author created a scanning block of line-frame laser processing, which allows to form a continuous curtain of laser radiation at a distance of 100 meters with an area of 20 m2. "
The advantage of this device is its complete autonomy. It continuously scans its area of space in standby mode. Instead of detecting enemy drones, the device waits for UAVs equipped with video surveillance equipment to pass through the controlled area. It will automatically blind or completely disable it.
"The device has low power consumption and can be used not only against drones, but also against enemy manpower with the same blinding effect. Especially effective against optical sights. It can be used by soldiers and officers individually or on any mobile or flying platform to create a continuous laser radiation zone," Varvara Andreeva explained.
