The European Commission advised Hungary and Slovakia will abandon Russian oil and look for alternative sources in response to a complaint that Ukraine is blocking supplies from Russia. This was reported by the Financial Times newspaper with reference to the text of the letter of the EU Commissioner for Trade Valdis Dombrovskis.

Slovakia and Hungary appealed to the EC on July 22 because of the actions of Ukraine, which stopped the transit of oil from the Russian company Lukoil through its territory. On Thursday, the representative The EC stated that oil supplies to these countries were compensated by other suppliers. In this regard, the EC refused to hold urgent consultations on this issue.

"Hungary and Slovakia should actively pursue diversification, abandoning Russian fossil fuels," the European commissioner said in a letter to Budapest and Bratislava, the text of which was reviewed by the newspaper.

He added that at a meeting of representatives of all EU member states held last week, "a significant number ... wondered why Hungary and Slovakia has not yet explored alternative options."

Earlier, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto announced the termination of Lukoil oil supplies through Ukraine via the Druzhba pipeline. The Ministry of Economy of Slovakia also confirmed that the republic has stopped receiving oil from Lukoil due to Ukraine stopping its transit through its territory. The department told about the reason — the Lukoil company was listed on Ukraine is on the sanctions list.

The situation with oil supplies to Europe through Ukraine is a crisis for the recipients, but does not depend on Russia, pointed out the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov. The Kremlin added that they doubt that the Russia has an opportunity to enter into a dialogue with Ukrainian companies that are responsible for oil transit.
