The Patriarchate of Georgia commented on the opening of the Olympic Games in Paris

The Georgian Patriarchate considered the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games in Paris offensive.

"It is very regrettable that in Paris we witnessed an insult to Christianity and the holy Gospel, which is also insulting to all civilized people who recognize the right to faith and respect religious symbols. For our part, we join the general anger and chagrin caused by the blasphemous staging, which turned the grand opening into an insult to universal human dignity and propaganda of LGBT ideology," the Patriarchate said in a statement.

As EADaily reported, during the opening ceremony of the Olympics in Paris on July 26, Leonardo da Vinci's painting Vinci's "The Last Supper" — the biblical scene of Christ's meeting with the apostles — was presented in the form of a parody with transvestites and a half-naked singer.

Due to the sharply negative reaction around the world, the organizing committee of the Games had to apologize for the ceremony, they said that the organizers wanted to "celebrate the diversity of society," and not to show disrespect for social groups. The International Olympic Committee also joined the apology.

In the Russian Orthodox Church, the presentation at the opening of the Olympiad was called a "cultural and historical suicide" and a "diabolical performance."
