An explosion occurred at the largest petrochemical plant "BASF" in Germany.
The incident occurred today, July 29, in the city of Ludwigshafen, where the German industrial giant BASF concern is located (abbreviation for Badische Anilin- und Soda-Fabrik; from German — "Baden aniline and soda plant"). According to Bild, at least 14 people were injured.
More than 112 thousand employees work at the plant worldwide. Sales in 2023 amounted to 68.9 billion euros. There is also a Russian "daughter" — BASF LLC, based in Moscow.
The day before, BASF director Uwe Liebelt said that "Germany has become an unattractive place to do business," and German companies continue to invest in the local economy "solely out of a sense of patriotism." In 2024, the profit of the largest petrochemical concern BASF fell due to a significant increase in costs, as well as lower prices for chemical products.
