Russia is already preparing a military response to the US plans to deploy long-range missiles in Germany, it was clear a long time ago. This was announced today, July 11, by Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov.
According to Ryabkov, these will be ground-based versions of the Tomahawk cruise missile and the SM-6 missile. The deputy minister stressed that Moscow "was right once again when, a few years ago, it announced that the United States was preparing to adapt these very systems for ground deployment."
"The Americans denied all this at that time, which is not surprising, because lies and attempts to mislead their opponents and the international community have always been an integral element of US behavior in the international arena and specifically in Europe," he stressed. "The nature of our reaction will be determined in a calm, professional manner. The military, no doubt, has already taken up this message. We will, of course, analyze which specific systems we will be talking about. Without nerves, without emotions, we will work out, first of all, a military response to this new threat."
As EADaily reported, the day before, a joint statement by the two countries appeared on the White House website that in 2026 the United States would begin deploying long-range missile weapons on the territory of Germany. The list of deployed weapons will include the SM-6 missile (a multifunctional sea, air and land-based missile), the Tomahawk cruise missile, as well as hypersonic weapons under development, "which has a significantly longer range than current ground-based firepower in Europe."
