Units of the military police are to be formed in the Russian military base deployed in Armenia, press office of the Southern Military District of the Russian Armed Forces reports.
Earlier, to maintain order at the Russian military base in Gyumri special patrols were formed, but the staff had no special training. Now, the units will be consisting of officers who were trained at a military police training center in Vladikavkaz.
The Southern Military District informs that recruitment will be performed by military psychologists from officers, sergeants and soldiers serving under contract.
To remind, Russia’s 102nd Military Base is deployed in Gyumri, northern Armenia. In August 2010, Russia and Armenia prolonged the contract for deployment of the military base till 2044. The protocol envisages extending its territories of responsibility geographically and strategically. The base is equipped with S 300, Buk M1-2 missile systems, MiG 29 fighters, Mi 8MT military transport aircraft and Mi 24P attack helicopters.
