Iran plans to increase gas supply to Armenia by the end of the year. Such an agreement was reached in Tehran during talks of Minister of Energy Infrastructures and Natural Resources of Armenia Ashot Manukyan with Director of the International Affairs Department at National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC) Behzad Babazadeh.
As the press office of the Armenian Energy Ministry informs, the parties discussed outcomes of the year for the Gas for Electricity program and discussed construction of the third Armenia-Iran high voltage line.
Noteworthy, the two countries use a swapping scheme in the energy sector. Armenia supplies 3 kilowatts per hour of electricity to Iran in exchange for 1 cubic meter of gas. Now, Iran is supplying Armenia with 400 mn cubic meters of gas every day. Meanwhile, the Armenian government repeatedly stated that it wanted to increase the amounts of gas bought thrice in 2018.
