Kyrgyz opposition has cancelled its meeting in Osh for fear of provocations on the government’s part.
One of the leaders of the National Opposition Movement Bektur Asanov said that after President Almazbek Atambayev accused his opponents of serving the Satan and said they must be stoned, the opposition realized that the authorities were plotting a provocation. “Our meeting in Osh might end in a bloodshed. And they would blame us for it. So, we decided to cancel the meeting and to hold it later in some other place,” Asanov said.
Earlier, some people posted on the internet audios of opposition leaders’ phone talks, where they discuss plans to organize public disorders as a way to seize power. The oppositionists deny such plans. “They have edited our talk. We had a talk but we did not mention such methods,” they say.
