Latvia should seek to develop good neighbor relations with Russia, Latvian President Andris Berzins has said in an interview to Vesti.lv.
“Russia is our neighbor and we should look for ways to develop our relations with that country. I believe that we are still good neighbors and that our attitude towards the Russians has not become worse,” Berzins said.
“Our political and economic relations are experiencing a decline but our human relations can serve as a good basis for progress. As president, I have always done my best to preserve and develop Latvia’s relations with Russia. I am optimistic here. Particularly, I see no grounds for saying that our economic relations will not develop,” Berzins said.
Berzins will be Latvia’s president till July 7. He successor is Raimonds Vejonis.
