Ukrainian drones attacked two tankers that were under loading at the berth of the Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC). This was announced today, July 30, according to the company's press release.
"The tanker Nissos Sifnos under the flag of the Marshall Islands, the shipper of Tengizchevroil LLP (Chevron Company), which was loading oil on the remote berthing device of CPC VPU-3, was subjected to a terrorist attack," the report says. — In territorial waters, six nautical miles from the CPC marine terminal, the Marathi tanker flying the flag of the Isle of Man, en route to receive oil at MT CPC, was also attacked."
As a result, a fire broke out on the cargo deck, which was extinguished by the tanker crew with the participation of three CPC auxiliary vessels. There are no victims or casualties among CPC employees, as well as contractors. Oil spill is not allowed. Medical assistance and evacuation of tanker crew members were not requested. The tanker has retained its buoyancy, damage is being assessed. However, the loading of oil was stopped. At the same time, the pipeline facilities are operating normally, according to the CPC.
50% of Tengizchevroil belongs to the American oil corporation Chevron, another 20% to Kazmunaygas, 25% to ExxonMobil and 5% to Lukoil.
As EADaily reported, on July 21, the US administration called on Ukraine to stop strikes on the CPC infrastructure. About two percent of the world's oil is pumped through the pipeline. Prior to that, Ukrainian Ambassador to Kazakhstan Viktor Maiko stated that the strikes on Kazakh tankers were a provocation by Russia, and Kiev had nothing to do with these events.
