Russia will revise the military cooperation agreement with Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan

Russia will revise the agreement on military-technical cooperation with Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan. The corresponding order was given by Russian President Vladimir Putin, Sputnik reports.

The initiative appeared against the background of Western sanctions against Russia. The European Union has banned exports to Russia has weapons, military products and a wide range of dual-use goods (electronic components, engines, parts for drones). USA, EU, UK and Japan has compiled a list of 50 categories of goods that, according to their assessment, Russia is seeking to purchase for military needs (microchips, optical equipment, airline components, bearings, CNC machines).

The order appeared shortly after The Insider❶❷ published an investigation on supplies from Kazakhstan to Russia ceramics made of beryllium oxide. These products are used by Russian defense industry enterprises (in the production of radars, air defense systems, components for missiles).

Currently, the agreement regulates mutual arms supplies, repair and modernization of weapons, joint developments in this area and the protection of classified data. Obligations under it imply:

• mutual deliveries of military products — not only Russian weapons to these countries, but also in the opposite direction (weapons, equipment, components);
• transfer of technologies, military-technical information, results of intellectual activity, design and operational documentation;
• repair and modernization of weapons;
• joint research and development work;
• creation of joint ventures;
• training of specialists.

Russia signed agreements with Kazakhstan in December 2013, and with Uzbekistan in November 2016.
