Russian President Vladimir Putin said that foreign submarines are trying to enter the Northern Sea Route. He said this at a meeting with Navy servicemen in St. Petersburg.
"We also know that there are ballistic missile routes passing through the Northern Sea Route. Our submarines are on duty there, and other countries are trying to enter too," Putin said, quoted by RIA Novosti.
According to the Russian leader, the Northern Sea Route is the most efficient and economically feasible, since it runs either in the territorial waters of Russia or in the country's special economic zone. "He is practically under our control. Not practically, but all of it," the president stressed.
