Western media linked the shooting of the Russian Navy frigate off the coast of Britain with Burnham

The patrol ship "Intrepid" of the Baltic Fleet of the Russian Navy conducted a shooting off the coast of Britain the day after the new Prime Minister Andy Burnham took office, the BBC reports.

On Monday, July 20, the day after the new Labor leader Andy Burnham was appointed Prime Minister of Britain after leaving the post of Keir Starmer, the Russian Navy patrol ship staged a shooting off the southwest coast of England, the BBC emphasizes.

We are talking about the frigate (according to NATO classification) "Intrepid", which, accompanied by a ship of the Royal Navy and under the supervision of a French military aircraft, conducted live-fire artillery exercises 74 km south of the city of Plymouth in the English Channel. According to the BBC, the maneuvers took place in international waters and lasted 30 minutes.

The BBC interlocutors reported that the "Intrepid" warned the British patrol ship HMS Tyne that he intended to conduct live-fire exercises and asked to relocate to a safer distance, which he did.

The official representative of the British Ministry of Defense said that British warships continue to "closely monitor the actions" of the Russian frigate.

According to the BBC, the "Intrepid" was also monitored by a French military aircraft, which established radio contact with him and asked him to clarify his intentions.

"For the new British Prime Minister Andy Burnham, this incident will be a reminder that in recent months the Russian Navy has been increasingly active near British shores," the BBC notes.

Sources in defense circles do not comment on suggestions that the shooting exercises could have been specially organized at the moment when Burnham's prime minister's term begins, the service writes.

The Kremlin, the BBC adds, commenting on the shooting of the Russian ship, said that such maneuvers should not be considered as "hints" and that Russia's actions comply with international norms.
