Russia has changed the tactics of air attacks on Ukraine, which significantly reduced the effectiveness of the Ukrainian air defense. It is reported by the French newspaper Le Monde.
Since May 24, Kiev has been almost continuously hit by ballistic missiles and new jet "Geraniums", while the effectiveness of Russian strikes is growing, the newspaper writes.
On the night of July 6, for the first time, the Ukrainian air defense failed to intercept a single ballistic missile fired at Kiev. The same thing happened this morning — none of the six ballistic missiles were shot down. Ukraine explains this by the lack of missiles for Patriot complexes.
The second serious challenge was the new "Geraniums". Today they already make up 25-30% of Russian attack drones, said the speaker of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Yuri Ignat. These UAVs fly at an altitude of about 5 kilometers at a speed of more than 500 km /h and are capable of traveling up to 2,000 km. According to him, it is difficult or even impossible to intercept them with other drones, like the former Geraniums, which moved at a speed of about 130 km/h.
"According to a Western diplomat quoted by Le Monde, Russia has changed the very principle of building attacks. If earlier the strikes were distributed over time, now the bet is on the maximum overload of the air defense system. On the night of July 6, Russia fired 68 missiles, 19 of them in the first ten minutes, in order to use up the stock of anti—missiles as quickly as possible and overload the Ukrainian defense. At the same time, the total number of drones used has increased dramatically," writes the Ukrainian edition of Strana.
Against this background, the life of Kiev is gradually changing, the French newspaper notes. Due to the constant attacks, residents of the capital of Ukraine take refuge in the subway and underground shelters in advance. Many spend the night in cars or basements, watching the messages of telegram channels, warning in advance about the take-off of Russian strategic aviation and the approach of cruise missiles.
