Danish Immigration Minister Morten Bedskov, initiates a law prohibiting the call of muezzins to prayer (azan).
Copenhagen, the minister said, is not Islamabad, and walking around Denmark, there should not be a feeling that it is an Islamic country. According to the minister, a loud call to prayer "has no place above Danish roofs." Some areas of the country increasingly resemble the "suburbs of Islamabad," Bedskov notes.
He took the initiative to ban the broadcasting of the call to prayer through loudspeakers in the country.
"Creeping Islamization in Denmark occupies too much public space," Bedskov added.
In Denmark, where there are some of the toughest migration rules in Europe, there is a limit on the volume of repeaters on minarets, but there was no complete ban. There are about 100 mosques in a country of 6 million people. In 10 years, Muslims have become the fastest growing religious group in the world.
Similar initiatives have been put forward before — in 2020 and 2025. The Minister's initiative may not be implemented, since the Danish Constitution protects freedom of religion.
