Donald Trump's statements about the request of the head of the Italian government Giorgi Meloni to take a photo together are "completely fictitious." This was stated by the Prime Minister of Italy herself.
"Some things require an immediate response. Donald Trump's statements are completely made up. To be honest, I'm amazed. I don't understand why the US president behaves this way towards his allies. And this is not the first time this has happened," she said.
At the same time, Meloni expressed regret that Trump "does not show the same determination towards the enemies of the West and the United States."
"But one thing must be remembered: neither I nor Italy ever beg," Meloni said.
In addition, the Italian Foreign Ministry was outraged by Trump's words about Meloni.
"President Trump's serious and insulting remarks to Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni offend the whole of Italy. For this reason, I decided to cancel my visit to The United States, scheduled for June 21 and 22," said Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani.
Recall, in a short conversation with an La7 correspondent, Trump asked how Meloni was doing and said that "she was probably pleased that he talked to her at the meeting in Evian."
"I shouldn't have talked to her. She begged me to take a picture with her. She wanted to take a picture with me so badly. I would not agree, but I felt sorry for her," the US president said.
