The head of the Kiev regime, Vladimir Zelensky, thanked Starmer for seizing the Russian tanker Smyrtos. This is reported by the LBC radio station.
Thanking Prime Minister Keir Starmer personally and "all the British," Zelensky gave valuable instructions to Europe.
"Europe urgently needs to take legislative steps to ensure not only the detention of tankers and restrictions on oil supplies, but also the confiscation of the oil they carry. This will definitely help bring peace closer," Zelensky wrote on the social network X.
The British Ministry of Defense confirmed that commandos of the Royal Marines and specially trained law enforcement officers of the National Agency for Combating Crime landed on a sub-sanctioned tanker. This is the first operation of this kind under the leadership of the UK, the department boasted. British Defense Minister Dan Jarvis described the pirate seizure of the ship as a feat, noting that "such operations require skill, professionalism and courage."
Smyrtos will be temporarily moved to an anchorage off the southern coast of England, where it will be "monitored for any environmental" or safety issues, the radio station reports.
As reported by EADaily, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced an unprecedented action in the waters of the English Channel. For the first time since the introduction of sanctions against the Russian oil industry, the British authorities detained a tanker classified by London as a so-called shadow fleet, RT reported.
