The further line of the Russian authorities in dealing with Yerevan will be based on the real steps of the Armenian leadership. This is stated in the comments of the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova on the results of the last parliamentary elections in Armenia.

"Moscow has always been and will always be interested in a strong and truly sovereign Armenia," the diplomat said, adding that "the Armenian people are fraternal to the Russian Federation," and Moscow wishes them peace and prosperity.

At the same time, Zakharova pointed out, "the past elections have clearly demonstrated that the Armenian society is extremely polarized."

"In such conditions, making unilateral decisions on the ways of Armenia's development without taking into account the opinions of all segments of the population means leading the country to further division and socio-economic upheavals. We hope that the Armenian authorities will be guided by approaches based on national interests," she said.
"As for Moscow's further line in dealing with Armenia, we intend to build our course taking into account the real steps of the Armenian leadership," the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry warned.

The preliminary results announced by the Central Election Commission of Armenia indicate that the Civil Contract party of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, which announced its victory in the parliamentary elections on June 7, did not receive a monopoly on power, Zakharova stated earlier. Moreover, compared to the previous electoral cycle, her support has noticeably decreased, she added.

As EADaily reported, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev was the first to congratulate Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan on the victory of his Civil Contract party. As the press service of the Kazakh president noted, "the elections, according to the preliminary data of most international observers, were held in accordance with the current electoral legislation of the country, openly and with the provision of appropriate conditions for the expression of the will of citizens."
