The Natra and Zircon motor ships in the Sea of Azov were attacked by Ukrainian drones, which confirms the terrorist nature of the Kiev regime, which increasingly chooses peaceful people as its targets. This is stated in the comments of the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova with reference to the data of the "competent authorities".
As the diplomat pointed out, according to information received from the Russian competent authorities, in the early morning of June 5, the Natra and Zircon motor ships were attacked in the Sea of Azov, en route from Turkey to the port of Rostov-on-Don under the flags of Belize and Palau, respectively.
"There are dead and wounded on both vessels, including citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan. The injured sailors were assisted by a passing Russian vessel and a border guard of the FSB of Russia. We express our sincere condolences to the families and friends of the victims. We wish a speedy recovery to the injured," Zakharova said.
She added that the circumstances of the incident are being clarified.
"According to available data, the vessels were attacked by Ukrainian drones, which once again confirms the terrorist nature of the Kiev regime, which increasingly chooses civilians and civilian infrastructure facilities as its targets," the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry stressed.
"We are in close contact with The Embassy of Azerbaijan in Moscow and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan," she said.
The diplomat also stated that "the Russian side will provide all necessary assistance to partners in obtaining information about the circumstances of the incident and ensuring consular access to Azerbaijani citizens."
As the authors of the telegram channel "Two Majors" note, the purpose of the attack "was the captain's bridge (the enemy personally distributed the video of drone visits) in order not just to deploy / immobilize the ship, but to completely disable it, killing civilians."
The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry has confirmed the death of five of its citizens as a result of a UAV attack on cargo ships in the inland sea of Russia. Three more people were injured and are in the Yeysk hospital, the diplomatic agency reported.
