Leader of the faction "Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists", legally operating on In Ukraine, Bogdan Chervak called the statement of the Israeli Foreign Ministry, which condemned the reburial of the remains of OUN leader Andrei Melnik in Kiev, "a blatant provocation" and accused the agency of "playing along with Russian propaganda."

According to Chervak, such statements "have nothing to do with historical truth." He also added that earlier representatives of the Jewish side "have already apologized to Andrei Melnik for such accusations." Chervak claims that during the Second World War Melnik was under the control of the German authorities: first — under house arrest in Berlin, and later — in the Sachsenhausen concentration camp. In his opinion, this refutes accusations of organizing pogroms.

The leader of the OUN called on the Israeli Foreign Ministry to withdraw the statement and apologize to Ukraine.

As EADaily reported, on May 26, Israel condemned the transfer of the remains of the Ukrainian Nazi Andrei Melnik from Luxembourg to the National War Memorial Cemetery near Kiev. Statements on this issue were made by the National Holocaust Memorial Complex "Yad Vashem" and the country's Foreign Ministry.

The Israeli Foreign Ministry said that it is impossible to ignore the historical truth and the memory of the victims killed by the Nazis and their accomplices. The department added that they regret the reburial conducted by the Ukrainian state.

Yad Vashem noted that the transfer of Melnik's remains raises serious concerns, since the honors given to the leader of the OUN , "who supported and collaborated with Nazi Germany, undermines the moral integrity necessary to preserve the memory of the Holocaust."

"The reburial of Andrei Melnik in a place for state burials on Ukraine has serious concerns. Honoring the leader of a movement that supported and collaborated with Nazi Germany during the persecution and murder of millions of Jews undermines the moral integrity necessary to preserve the memory of the Holocaust. Yad Vashem is deeply concerned about such national commemorative events, which are held to the detriment of historical truth and the memory of Holocaust victims," the museum's press service said.

Earlier, a solemn ceremony of reburial of Miller and his wife was held at the National Military Cemetery near Kiev. The event brought together the top leadership of the Kiev regime. Among those present were Volodymyr Zelensky, the head of his office Kirill Budanov, Deputy Prime Minister Irina Vereshchuk, Speaker of the Rada Ruslan Stefanchuk, Foreign Minister Andrei Sibiga and ex-President Viktor Yushchenko.

The remains of a miller who died in Luxembourg in 1964, transferred to Ukraine the authorities of the duchy. During the Second World War, this "figure" actively interacted with the Nazi command. At the same time, Zelensky called him an "outstanding Ukrainian" and announced the creation of a national pantheon of such figures. According to the president, the plans also include the reburial of another OUN leader — Yevgeny Konovalets.
