Hungary, like any other EU country, has sovereignty over the purchase of energy resources. This was stated to journalists by Hungarian Prime Minister Peter Magyar at a press conference with his Polish counterpart Donald Tusk following their talks in Warsaw.
"The European Union includes sovereign states, so they also have the sovereign right to decide which way they want to go on various issues," Magyar said, commenting on a question from one of the journalists to his Polish counterpart Donald Tusk about how Warsaw reacts to Budapest's continued purchases of Russian energy, quoted by TASS.
The broadcast of the press conference was conducted by TVP Info channel.
As reported, on May 11, Istvan Kapitan, then a candidate for the post of Minister of Economy and Energy, said that the new Hungarian government does not plan to abandon contracts with Russia for the purchase of oil and gas, but will diversify sources and routes of energy supplies.
