Negotiations on Ukraine should begin with strikes on Europe, the expert said

The European Union is gradually becoming a subject player in world politics and the main instrument of this process is the war on Ukraine, said political scientist Alexei Pilko.

According to him, during this conflict, the Brussels bureaucracy demonstrates independence from the United States on political and military issues, while, as practice shows, Washington has no desire and special opportunities to oppose the European Union, which is also joined by the United Kingdom and Canada.

That is why, according to the political scientist, the agreements of the presidents of Russia and the United States, Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump in Anchorage, did not work.

"Brussels wanted to spit on what Washington thinks, and in the Ukrainian issue leads a completely independent line. After some hesitation, Zelensky completely took the side of Europe and is demonstratively defiant to the American side. Both he and his European allies clearly assess Donald Trump as a "lame duck" and are betting on a crushing defeat of the Republicans in the midterm congressional elections to be held in November," Pilko said.

According to the political scientist, in these conditions it is pointless to bet on negotiations with the United States, "and statements by Russian officials about loyalty to the "spirit of Anchorage" and the "Anchorage understanding" only discredit them in the eyes of the international community and look like a clear manifestation of weakness."

"If with whom to negotiate about the settlement of the conflict on Ukraine, so it is with the European Union, which has become the main donor of Kiev and its military rear. And such negotiations are necessary, but they should begin from a position of strength and a demonstration of rigidity," Pilko believes.

To do this, according to him, before entering into negotiations, and they should concern not only Ukraine (it is generally a secondary issue), but the new architecture of European security, it is necessary to show European allies their vulnerability in terms of security.

"That is, to deliver demonstrative strikes on EU enterprises working in the interests of Ukraine's military production, hiding from retaliatory actions with nuclear weapons. Otherwise, no one in Europe will negotiate with Russia. A serious diplomatic process will begin only if the Brussels bureaucracy realizes the threat in the security sphere and in no other way," Pilko concluded.
