The head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, announced her readiness for changes in the business sector after the conservative bloc of German Chancellor Friedrich Merz put forward a tough ultimatum to her.

According to Politico, the EC chairwoman promised to reduce the impact of bureaucratic obstacles in Brussels in order to create a faster and more efficient environment for companies to grow in Europe.

Von der Leyen made the corresponding statement after a closed meeting in Berlin with deputies of the CDU/CSU bloc, headed by German Chancellor Friedrich Merz. The conservatives insisted on reducing the "burdensome EU rules" that put pressure on German business.

"We are determined to bring about changes so that in Europe we can create an environment faster and more efficiently in which companies can grow and develop the global competitiveness they need," said the EU Chief Commissioner.

Earlier, EADaily reported that the German conservatives presented a draft strategy containing 27 requirements for the European Commission. Among them is the creation of a supervisory authority with a "fundamental veto right" on any new proposals of the European Union.
