French President Emmanuel Macron called on European countries to "wake up" against the background of external threats that, according to him, come not only from Russia and China, but also from the USA.

The corresponding statement was made by the head of the Fifth Republic during his visit to Greece, the broadcast of his speech in Athens is available on YouTube.

"One cannot underestimate the unique moment when the American president, the Russian leader and the chairman of the People's Republic of China fiercely oppose the Europeans," Macron said.

Developing this idea, he was still somewhat confused, noting that Donald Trump, although he is an opponent of Europe, he is still an "ally," even if he is not always reliable or predictable.

"This is a political message: we do not rely solely on NATO, and therefore the European factor is playing an increasingly important role. This is the right time for us to wake up," the French president summed up.

As EADaily reported, on the eve of French President Emmanuel Macron said that Europe had sent a powerful signal to Russia by approving a loan to Ukraine and introducing a new package of sanctions against Moscow.
