Today, on April 14, State Duma deputies adopted in the first reading a government bill that allows the use of the army to protect Russians abroad in case of arrest and other persecution.
Now the President of Russia has the opportunity to involve the country's Armed Forces to perform tasks not according to their intended purpose. The authors of the initiative propose to establish that the head of state, among other things, will be able to direct formations The Armed Forces of the Russian Federation to protect Russians from persecution by foreign and international courts empowered without the participation of Russia.
In addition, the bill provides that government agencies, by decision of the President of the Russian Federation, will also take measures to protect Russian citizens in the event of their arrest, criminal and other prosecution by courts of other countries.
If the State Duma adopts the law and it is subsequently signed by the President of Russia, the document will enter into force 10 days after publication.
