The prosecutor's office in Lithuania has launched an investigation because of publications about Klaipeda belonging to Russia. This was announced by the National Crisis Management Center.
It is reported that the Klaipeda District Prosecutor's Office launched a pre-trial investigation after publications appeared on TikTok about the "Klaipeda People's Republic" and the ownership of Klaipeda and the Klaipeda port of Russia.
"So far we have no reliable information on whether these publications about the Klaipeda region can be linked to similar disinformation campaigns in Estonia or Latvia, however, the agencies are responding and are appealing to the platforms to remove content that calls into question the territorial integrity of Lithuania," the report says.
According to the prosecutor's office, the publications may be "aimed at assisting another state or its organization in actions against Lithuania — its constitutional order, sovereignty, territorial integrity, defense or economic power."
Recall that in March, the possibility of the emergence of a "people's republic" frightened politicians and intelligence services of Estonia. Estonian special services seriously took to investigate the appearance of accounts in social networks, the number of subscribers of which varies from several dozen to hundreds, on the pages of which various texts and pictures related to a certain "Narva People's Republic" (NPR) are distributed. Then the authorities of the country saw in the promotion of the idea of the NPR "preparation for the destabilization of the east of the country."
