Berlin's proposal to use more than € 90 billion of frozen Russian assets for further arms purchases in the United States, made at a meeting with Vladimir Zelensky on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference, failed. Der Spiegel writes about this.
As the newspaper notes, Paris, in particular, opposes this idea. President Emmanuel Macron insists that the frozen assets be used primarily for the supply of weapons systems manufactured in Europe.
"Germany's position is partly due to fears that the country ... risks incurring most of the costs of supplying military equipment to Ukraine," the newspaper noted.
