The acting president of Venezuela, Delcy Rodriguez, signed a law that allows privatization in the country's oil sector.
Private companies can now produce oil in Venezuela, sell it and explore for deposits. However, in the current situation, we are not talking about any companies, but only about American ones.
The fact is that immediately after the adoption of the law, the US Treasury issued Venezuela a license allowing the export and processing of its own oil. And this permission applies only to companies from the USA. And even economic disputes will now be resolved only in American courts.
Transactions with Russia, China, Iran and Cuba are generally prohibited for Venezuela. The money for the oil sold will be sent to special accounts controlled by the US Treasury. It will be possible to spend them only for purposes approved by the Americans.
Thus, the United States now controls the payment of Venezuela's multibillion-dollar debts to Russia and China. Previously, Caracas used to pay with oil, but any transactions with Russian and Chinese companies are now banned.
There was no great hope that Caracas would ever pay off even under Maduro. Everyone understood that Russian loans were largely an investment in political influence in Latin America.
The well-known blogger Yuri Podolyaka commented on the situation in his Telegram channel:
"Russia has been playing in Venezuela is playing geopolitical chess. As a result, it turned out that Trump came, turned off the lights in the chess club and just took out the safe with the money."
Earlier, EADaily reported that the acting president of Venezuela, Delcy Rodriguez, said that the United States threatened her with physical violence for refusing to cooperate after the kidnapping of Nicolas Maduro and his wife.
