Talking about Russia is demeaning — terrible. This was stated by Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna.
The head of the Estonian Foreign Ministry reacted sharply to the statement of former German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder, who opposed the "demonization" of Russia.
"It's just terrible," Tsakhkna wrote on social networks, commenting on the ex-chancellor.
According to him, the conflict on Ukraine became a "direct result of a long-term policy of appeasement and decades of belief that trade will curb aggression."
"This belief financed the rearmament and secured Europe's energy dependence, which supported the aggressor's cash flow," Tsakhkna believes.
He also called the "failed" and "irretrievably gone" German foreign policy on the principle of "Wandel durch Handel" ("Change through trade"). Under the eom, Tsakhkna stated that there would be no return to the previous policy.
Estonia is one of the most Russophobic EU countries. Tallinn reacts extremely negatively to any statements about the need to resume dialogue with Moscow. Earlier, in an interview with Berliner Zeitung, Gerhard Schroeder said that Russia is "not a country of barbarians, but a state with a rich culture and long—standing historical ties with Germany."
