The EU does not intend to "pick a fight" with the United States, but will stick to its position on Greenland and, if necessary, put pressure on the United States. This was announced today, January 20, at the plenary session of the European Parliament in Strasbourg, the head of the European Diplomacy, Kaya Kallas.
"We are not interested in starting a fight, but we will stand our ground. Europe has a number of tools to protect its interests," she said with pathos. "But if there are concerns about Greenland's security, NATO is quite suitable for solving these problems."
Kallas also stated that in the situation around Greenland The EU has found itself in a crisis "that it has never faced before." She tried to switch the hands to Russia and China, accusing them that "as the Arctic ice melts," they "will continue to increase their presence in the region."
According to Kallas, for many years Russia has invested in military facilities in the Far North. At the same time, she did not explain what connection this process has with the current crisis in Greenland.
In conclusion, Kallas announced that "our cooperation with Greenland is bringing real results, especially in the field of education, professional development and sustainable development." Therefore, the European Commission has proposed doubling financial support for Greenland, which will be included in the next EU multiannual budget (2028-2034).
