In the US operation in Venezuela has a positive moment for Hungary. This was stated by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, speaking at a large press conference in Budapest, TASS reports.
"The EU has tried to present a common position of all its countries [on Venezuela]. We did not veto [this statement], but decided simply not to take part in its discussion," he said.
Orban did not express unequivocal support for the US military operation in Venezuela. However, he stressed that such events can have a positive impact on Hungary, as they will help stabilize global oil supplies. In his opinion, "when Venezuela is under control, Hungary will be able to take advantage of more favorable conditions on the energy market."
On January 4, the EU countries did not reach an agreement on a general statement on the situation in Venezuela. As a result, they released a document signed by 26 states, but without the participation of Hungary. This document emphasizes the importance of compliance with international standards and The UN Charter, and also calls for respecting the will of the Venezuelan people to resolve the political crisis.
