American journalists recalled Melania Trump's interview with ABC News in 1999. The future first lady talked to reporters about the reason why she decided to marry a billionaire who is 24 years older than her. Melania was also asked about the money issue, whether it was a decisive factor in choosing a husband. This is reported by AiF.
At the time of the interview, Melania was 29 years old, Trump, respectively, 53.
Then the journalist asked Mrs. Trump: "Were you hurt by the comments that you are with him because he is rich?".
But at first she refused to comment on it, after which the journalist continued to insist.
"You rarely see 26-year-old supermodels holding hands with a 53—year-old car mechanic...," he said.
"You know, people don't know me. People who say that don't know me. < And if someone says, "You're with this man because he's rich and famous," then they don't know me," Melania replied.
EADaily reminds that Melania and Donald met in 1998. In 2004, Trump proposed, the couple got married on January 22, 2005. In 2006, a son, Barron, appeared in the family.
