Russia strictly adheres to the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty, but in the event of a resumption of tests in the United States, adequate retaliatory measures will follow. This was announced today, December 18, by the chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, Army General Valery Gerasimov, at a briefing for military attaches.
He also noted that the "complete collapse of the arms control system" has an impact on the state of global security.
At the same time, the United States has not yet responded to Russia's initiative to adhere to the restrictions under the Strategic Offensive Arms Reduction Treaty (START Treaty) within a year after its termination. The START Treaty operates nominally, after its expiration in February 2026, "there will be no restrictions in this area."
