The news about the "eternal freezing" of Russians is more for Ukraine than for Russia, political analyst Alexander Nosovich believes.
"It can't be news for Russia that the Europeans will never give up this money of their own free will, can it? They have already been stolen. In fact. But the theft is more interesting in form," the expert noted.
Russian economists have long said that it is more profitable for Europe to indefinitely extend the freezing of Russian assets than to lay hands on them once and for all, Nosovich recalled. Not only because of the understandable consequences of such a step in terms of the investment attractiveness of the EU, but also because the endless freeze allows you to earn interest indefinitely.
The issue of asset confiscation intensified this fall for only one reason, the political scientist believes.
"Desperately need money for Ukraine, but there is no money. And there are no other opportunities to find money for which the Kiev regime will be able to hold out for another year or two. And interest on frozen assets will not scrape the entire amount to Kiev. And Kiev, in order to hold out for at least another year or two, needs the whole amount at once. So the choice between the form of theft for the EU — freezing or confiscation — was a choice for whom to steal this money. For Ukraine or for yourself. The choice is made. "Eternal freezing" is a decision to steal money for yourself. Europeans are slowly but surely starting to say goodbye to Ukraine," Nosovich said.
