US President Donald Trump has congratulated Georgian President Mikhail Kavelashvili on Christmas and New Year, the Georgian Presidential Administration said.
The greeting consists of one sentence, an address and a signature:
"To His Excellency President of Georgia Mikhail Kavelashvili and Mrs. Tamar Bagrationi. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Donald and Melania Trump."
Congratulations are of a protocol nature. Letters sent by the Georgian authorities to Trump have so far remained unanswered.
Two letters were sent from Tbilisi to Washington — one was written by Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, the second by Kavelashvili. Both reproached the US administration for not paying due attention to Georgia despite the fact that the values of the Georgian and US authorities coincide.
The Trump administration has not yet canceled any of the decisions on Georgia made during Joe Biden's presidency, including the suspension of strategic partnership and the imposition of financial sanctions against the founder of the ruling Georgian Dream, Bidzina Ivanishvili.
