US Air Force fighters flew in Venezuelan airspace for 40 minutes. This is reported by the Miami Herald newspaper, citing data from the Flightradar service.
It is noted that the route of the American F-18 fighter jets ran between the key states of Zulia and Falcon for the Venezuelan energy sector. The planes flew less than 160 km from Maracaibo, the country's second largest city, and over the lake of the same name. Billions of barrels of oil reserves are concentrated there. In addition, there are routes of fishing vessels and oil tankers serving refineries in Zulia and Falcon nearby. Maracaibo is also home to one of the main air bases of the Venezuelan Air Force.
As EADaily reported, the US Navy deployed a strike group of ships led by the aircraft carrier Gerald R. Ford, a nuclear submarine, and more than 16 thousand military personnel in the Caribbean. Since September, the US Armed Forces have sunk at least 20 high-speed boats in the region, resulting in the death of more than 80 people.
On November 29, Trump announced on the Truth Social social network the closure of airspace over Venezuela.
