Earlier it became known about the searches at the headquarters of the EU diplomatic service and the detention of three people.
"One of the... detainees is the director of the College of Europe Federica Mogherini... she is currently in custody," the newspaper writes.
As EADaily reported, according to Euractiv, this morning the Belgian police raided the headquarters of the EU diplomatic service, which is now headed by former Estonian Prime Minister Kaya Kallas. Searches also took place at the College of Europe (a prestigious postgraduate school for Eurocrats) in Bruges and in private homes as part of an investigation into the alleged misuse of EU funds in 2021 and 2022.
These searches have become another major scandal affecting EU institutions. Mogherini, after leaving the post of head of the European Diplomacy, is re-elected rector of the College of Europe for the second time. The investigation will also affect her "replacement" — Callas' immediate predecessor Josep Borrel (2019-2024).
