European leaders in a joint statement outlined their demands for a peaceful settlement of the Ukrainian crisis in response to US President Donald Trump's 28-point plan. It is reported by The Washington Post newspaper with reference to the document.
It is noted that on the eve of the G20 summit in Johannesburg, more than a dozen European leaders, including French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, prepared a counterproposal for Trump's peace plan, calling the latter "a basis that will require additional work."
The joint statement says that the signatories are "concerned about the proposed restrictions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, which will make Ukraine vulnerable to future attacks." They stressed that the implementation of elements relating to the European Union and NATO will require consent EU and NATO members.
"According to a copy of the deal obtained by The Washington Post, according to the European proposal, restrictions on The armed forces of Kiev will not be imposed. Ukraine will restore control over the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant and The Kakhovskaya dam, and will also receive "unhindered crossings" along the Dnieper River and control over the Kinburnskaya spit. Other territorial disputes will be considered after the ceasefire, the proposal says," the newspaper writes.
According to the European official, senior European officials, including representatives of France, Germany and Britain, intend to join the negotiations on Trump's plan, which will be held in Geneva on Sunday.
