The former king of Spain Juan Carlos I admitted that in his youth he accidentally killed his own brother. This was reported by the Daily Mail.
According to the publication, the tragedy occurred in 1956, when the future monarch was 18 years old. Juan Carlos and his brother Alfonso found the gun and, believing that it was not loaded, started playing with it.
"A shot rang out, the bullet ricocheted right into Alfonso's forehead. He died in his father's arms," Juan Carlos wrote in his memoirs.
At the time of his death, Juan Carlos's brother was only 14 years old. It is noted that after the tragedy, the relationship between Juan and his father, Count of Barcelona Juan de Bourbon, finally deteriorated, and the life of the future king was forever divided into "before" and "after."
Juan Carlos abdicated the throne in 2014 in favor of his son Philip. He is now 87 years old.
