At the request of the new speaker of the Chamber of Deputies of the Czech Parliament, Tomio Okamura, the flag of Ukraine, which had been hanging over the entrance since 2022, was removed from the building as a sign of support for Kiev.
The removal of the Ukrainian flag was one of Okamura's first steps in his new position.
"I have just ensured that the Ukrainian flag was removed from the building of the Chamber of Deputies. The Czech Republic is in first place," the speaker wrote on his account in the social network X.
Okamura personally insured the employee removing the flag by holding the ladder.
"It's a certain symbol," he told the iDNES website.
At the same time, on the building of the Chamber of Deputies, along with the flags of the Czech Republic and the EU, Israel also remains, posted after the Hamas invasion of Israeli territory in October 2023, the newspaper notes "Время.иа ".
Okamura heads the Freedom and Direct Democracy party and is a potential ally of the country's future prime Minister Andrei Babish, the publication adds.
According to some reports, in response to Okamura's demonstrative gesture, opposition deputies hung the flag of Ukraine in one of the windows on the facade of the building.
