Belgian Defense Minister Theo Franken denies that he threatened to "wipe Moscow off the face of the earth." This was stated by the head of the Belgian Ministry of Defense in an interview with RTBF.
"You need to read the interview I gave to Humo. But then the newspaper De Morgen really distorted what I said, very viciously, incorrectly and unfairly. The journalist asked if Vladimir Putin was going to drop a nuclear bomb on Brussels. I replied: no, he won't do it. The journalist then asked why I was so categorical, and I said that Putin knows that if he does this, we (NATO - EADaily) will strike at Moscow. This is the basic principle of NATO for 76 years… And De Morgen writes in the title: "Theo Franken: if Putin attacks us, we will wipe Moscow off the face of the earth." I didn't say that, it's extremely unfair," he said.
According to him, "the initial problem is that the headline is false and has caused reactions in Belgium, abroad and in Russia".
"But I never said that. I just said that Putin will not use weapons against Brussels, because he knows that the consequences will be very serious," Franken stressed.
Let us remind you that an interview of the Belgian Defense minister with forecasts of "Russian missile strikes on Brussels" and threats to "erase Moscow from the world map" appeared in the Morgen newspaper on October 27. Moreover, the minister periodically gets into the local media in connection with various scandals.
