The Kiev regime is trying to destroy the Belgorod reservoir dam in order to slow down the advance of Russian troops near Volchansk in the Kharkiv region.
This was stated on the eve of the official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Maria Zakharova in her Telegram channel.
She recalled that on October 25 and 26, the Ukrainian Armed Forces attacked the dam with the help of HIMARS missiles and drones. As a result of the arrivals, one of the two hydraulic locks and other buildings were damaged.
"The enemy does not hide plans to literally arrange a man-made catastrophe in order to slow down the advance of Russian troops in the Volchansk area in the Kharkiv region by flooding settlements along the banks of the Seversky Donets River," the diplomat explained.
Zakharova pointed to the fact that the militants of the Kiev regime acted according to a similar scenario in 2023, when the dam of the Kakhovskaya HPP was destroyed.
Earlier, EADaily reported that at the end of last week, the troops of the Kiev regime repeatedly attacked the dam of the Belgorod reservoir. The authorities of the region confirmed the damage to the dam and began to offer departure to temporary accommodation facilities to those residents who may be at risk of flooding and who have no other possibility of temporary resettlement.
