US President Donald Trump has called on Republicans to Congress should apply the "nuclear option" to overcome the shutdown — the suspension of government work due to lack of funding. He published the appeal on his Truth Social social network today, October 31.
"It's time for the Republicans to use their "trump card" and move on to the so—called nuclear option — get rid of the filibuster procedure and do it immediately!" said Trump.
The filibuster rule requires 60 votes to pass a majority of bills in The Senate. Currently, due to this procedure, Congress cannot pass a law on short-term financing of the government: both proposals — both Democrats and Republicans — were rejected, none received the required number of votes.
As EADaily reported, since October 1, the US government has suspended work. Donald Trump blamed the Democrats for this, but added that the situation "can give a lot of good."
