The new US sanctions affected the two largest Russian oil companies — Rosneft and LUKOIL, and their subsidiaries. US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent explained the restrictive measures by the fact that the Russian president was not "honest and frank" in negotiations about Ukraine.
The White House expects that sanctions will cause damage to Moscow, said spokeswoman Caroline Leavitt.
