After a meeting at the White House with Vladimir Zelensky, US President Donald Trump had the impression that Ukraine was seeking to escalate the military conflict, CNN reported, citing a source.
On Friday, Trump met with Zelensky in Washington. As the channel emphasizes, during a "direct and honest" conversation, Trump made it clear to Zelensky that he would not receive long-range missiles.
"One of the officials said that Trump had the impression that Ukraine was seeking to escalate and prolong the conflict, and he was concerned about possible (territorial) losses during the upcoming harsh winter," the article says.
According to sources, Trump's meeting with Zelensky was tense, frank and sometimes "uncomfortable."
In addition, CNN notes that Zelensky and the US president disagreed on the future development of events on the Ukrainian conflict.
Axios portal previously reported that Trump's meeting with Zelensky at the White House was "not easy", the American leader was tough. According to the portal, Trump told Zelensky at a meeting at the White House that the United States does not intend to supply Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine, "at least for now."
Before the upcoming meeting between Trump and Zelensky on Thursday, Russian President Vladimir Putin had a telephone conversation with the American leader — one of the longest since the beginning of 2025. The parties discussed, in particular, the situation around Ukraine. Following the meeting, Trump announced that he intends to hold a personal meeting with Putin in Budapest.
After a conversation with Putin, Trump, commenting on a possible decision to supply Ukraine with long-range Tomahawk missiles, said that the United States itself needs them despite having a large number.
