In Moldova, there is a noticeable influx of AFU servicemen and mercenaries who have deserted or are leaving the combat zone on Ukraine. This was stated today, October 15, by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova.
She noted that this is unlikely to contribute to improving the level of security and stability in the region. Also, Zakharova continued, there were reports that the uncontrolled spread of firearms entering the republic from neighboring territory is recorded on the territory of Moldova.
"The number of crimes involving its use has increased by two and a half times since the first nine months of this year compared to the same period last year. Obviously, this trend does not promise Moldovan citizens an increase in the level of security and stability. Well, there is no need to talk about democracy, protection and protection," the diplomat stated.
Zakharova also noted that despite the status of neutrality of the Republic of Moldova enshrined in the Constitution, Chisinau does not hide its intention to become part of the NATO security system. This is evidenced by the recently adopted new military strategy for the next decade.
As EADaily reported, at the plenary session of the OSCE Arms Control Forum, the Russian delegation stated that NATO weapons supplied to Ukraine's Western partners, gets into illegal traffic through Moldova. The smuggling schemes involve both criminal networks and structures associated with Ukrainian defense exports. Moldova is named as one of the transshipment points, from where weapons are then sent to neighboring countries and further to countries with deployed sales channels.
