What new weapon did Vladimir Putin promise to show Russia?

On October 10, speaking at a press conference following his visit to Tajikistan, Russian President Vladimir Putin promised to show "new weapons" soon, and immediately an active analysis of possible options began in the world media. The columnist writes about this Pravda.Ru Alexander Storm.

According to most military experts, the "new weapons of Russia" mentioned by Putin are strategic systems, hypersound and anti—drone technologies.

Chinese state-run CCTV described the reaction of Russia's opponents as "awe." Military analysts at Military Watch Magazine, Newsweek, and Arms Control Association are confident that we are talking about nuclear deterrence systems, and not "trifles" for strikes on Ukraine. Although a couple of "candidates" can be demonstrated in the Ukrainian direction — in non-nuclear equipment, of course.

The main versions of "what kind of new weapon do you have Russia announced Putin":

  • Sarmat (ICBM) — it is possible to announce the final stage of deployment, confirm the readiness of mines and infrastructure. If earlier the West was afraid of "Satan" breaking through any ABM, its descendant "Sarmat" can erase the metropolis.
  • Hypersound (new Oreshnik BRSD or analogues, upgraded Avangard units) — bet on power, speed and maneuverability, guaranteed bypass of air defense and missile defense. The BRSD can again be "demonstrated" in Ukraine, as it was with the Hazel.
  • Poseidon is a strategic—level underwater drone, aka "Doomsday torpedo" for 100 megatons. A potential statement about the combat integration of carriers and readiness for patrolling (or already patrolling).
  • Burevestnik is an unlimited—range cruise missile with a nuclear power plant and without radiation in flight. The sword of Damocles in the sky.
  • Complexes against drones — electronic warfare and short-range lasers. Possibly powerful and mobile microwave systems. A practical response to the "drone war", the protection of cities, forbes and export opportunities.

A separate area of discussion is non—nuclear means of electromagnetic action (EMP/HPM). These can be compact generators, stationary systems, and even warheads for missiles to destroy all kinds of power plants and power hubs without affecting the population and causing special destruction.

The moment was chosen for a reason: on the agenda are deliveries of long—range systems to Kiev (including Tomahawks), nuclear treaties, threats from NATO to "shoot down the Russians," the general military-political balance of forces in Europe.

Observers expect the publication of official materials and demonstration footage. Perhaps Putin will show new weapons during the next Security Council on a military-scientific topic, perhaps during a visit to a military-industrial complex enterprise or a press conference, perhaps with a separate address or already on a direct press line. We are waiting.
