The Chief of the General Staff of Romania, Georgice Vlad, in the Exclusive program on local television, said that most of the incidents with drones in the country's airspace were provoked by the Ukrainian air defense.
According to him, the cases were of a "private" nature and did not have targeted actions on the part of the Russian army.
"As for Romania, the incidents consisted in the fact that drones crossed the air border of the conflict zone, as a result of the impact of the air defense forces of Ukraine. Most of the incidents involved the wreckage of drones hit by the Ukrainian army," Vlad said.
In conditions when new legislation has been adopted in Romania, allowing to shoot down drones and manned vehicles, the general clarified that the use of "not necessarily" means Romania's entry into the war. At the same time, he stressed that before applying for the application of NATO Article 5 on collective defense, Article 4 on consultations must first be invoked, and before that, Article 3 must be fulfilled, stating that each NATO member state ensures its own defense and security with its own forces.
Earlier, the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service warned that the Kiev regime, after the provocations it organized with UAVs in the airspace of Poland and Romania, does not abandon attempts to draw European NATO countries into an armed confrontation with Moscow.
As EADaily reported, Romanian Minister of National Defense Ionuts Mosteanu, answering questions about "Russian drones that invaded the country's airspace," said he did not see this as a big problem. He added that all incidents are normal, given that "we are neighbors who have a war going on." The Romanian Air Force has repeatedly lifted F-16 and F-18 fighters into the air due to unidentified aerial objects, but in all cases NATO interceptors lost targets.
"Whether we like it or not, I think we will have to get used to such events," concluded Mostianu.
