Another boast of the great "peacemaker": the war in Gaza will be continued

US President Donald Trump announced the end of the war in Gaza. But neither representatives of Israel nor Hamas are going to Egypt for the peace summit. Won't the holiday be another hypocrisy? This question is asked by the observer Pravda.Ru Lyubov Stepushova.

The ceasefire in the Gaza Strip has been maintained for the fourth day. Going to Israel, US President Donald Trump said that the war in the Gaza Strip is "over." Arab publics post videos about the return of refugees through Egypt and about the exchange of prisoners (hostages). Israel celebrates the return of the first hostages.

When asked by reporters if the ceasefire would last, Trump replied: "Yes, I think it will."… People are tired of this war." When asked about the future of the Gaza Strip, Trump replied: "I think the situation is normalizing."

After visiting Israel, he will travel to Egypt, where he will take part in the signing ceremony of the "declaration on the end of the war in Gaza" and hold a "Gaza Peace Summit" in Sharm el-Sheikh in the presence of leaders of 20 countries who will dispense with the culprits of the celebration - representatives of Israel and Hamas, who, according to the latest data, refused. This suggests that not everything is as good as Trump imagines.

The political wing of Hamas also made a statement that "the war is over." Hamas's military wing, the Al—Qassam Brigade, reaffirmed its "commitment to fulfilling our responsibilities" under Trump's plan, but called on the mediators to "force the Zionist enemy to fulfill its obligations under the agreement, as well as complete the implementation of all points of the agreement."

Their loyalty is explained by the concession of Trump, who agreed "for a certain period of time" that Hamas would perform police duties in Gaza.

Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, in his speech yesterday, October 12, in the evening, reiterated that "the war is not over yet."

Israel has not fully withdrawn its troops from the sector, 50% of the territory is under its control and, most importantly, the fertile lands in the east of Gaza. The Israeli army also conducts military operations in various areas of Gaza, including Rafah, a "window to the world" through Egypt. There are regular air strikes, shelling and clashes with Hamas fighters. These are supposedly temporary phenomena that do not affect the general attitude towards a peaceful settlement.

It should be borne in mind that numerous attempts to achieve a sustainable truce through intermediaries (Egypt, Qatar, the United States) have so far failed. The current attempt is the sixth or eighth in the last five years. And on May 21, 2021, an official "mutual and indefinite truce" was announced.

There are still fundamental disagreements between Israel and Hamas on key points of the agreement. In particular, about the formation of two states.

Israel this time caused significant destruction and killed about 60 thousand Hamas fighters, this is a huge wound. Whether young Palestinians will continue to sacrifice their lives depends on how the sponsors of Hamas behave, and these are "private investors" from the Persian Gulf countries, Turkey, Iran, who transfer money in cryptocurrency. Many of the capitals of the Middle East do not want to strengthen Israel.

Moscow supported Trump's peace plan, the Kremlin has relations with all parties to the Middle East conflict, playing a complex diplomatic game and defending its interests of weakening the United States, ensuring its own security, obtaining economic benefits and strengthening its global influence. One of the markers of success will be (or will not be) the Russia—Arab Countries summit, which was supposed to take place on October 20 in Moscow, but has been postponed.
