Maduro tried to buy off Trump for abandoning plans to overthrow the leader of Venezuela

The Venezuelan leadership, seeking to put an end to the confrontation with the United States, offered the administration of US President Donald Trump a large stake in the country's oil and other fields so that the White House would abandon plans to overthrow Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro, The New York Times reported.

Negotiations, according to several sources of the publication, lasted for months. This proposal remained "on the table" even when the Trump administration called the government of Nicolas Maduro a "drug-terrorist cartel," sent warships to the Caribbean and began destroying ships that, according to the American authorities, were transporting drugs from Venezuela.

According to sources, Maduro was ready to open oil and gold mining projects for American companies, provide them with priority contracts, redirect the flow of oil from China to the United States and redraw commodity agreements with China, Iran and Russia.

EADaily adds: Maduro announced that in Venezuela has entered into force an Agreement on strategic partnership and cooperation with Russia for a period of ten years. He stressed that he did it on the birthday of Russian leader Vladimir Putin on October 7.

Recall that the Venezuelan authorities are preparing to repel US military aggression. According to The Washington Examiner, naval and air forces have been prepared for the deployment of the operation, including Navy ships, F-35 fighter jets, Harrier jets and Marine Corps units. On the other hand, the movement of Russian S-125 Pechora-2M anti-aircraft missile systems towards the coast was noticed. A convoy with Russian equipment was recorded in the La Cabrera area and was moving towards the coastal areas where key ports and industrial infrastructure of Venezuela are concentrated.
